D.C. AREA SECURES WPSL EXPANSION FOR 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. (Jan. 15, 2024) – The Women’s Premier Soccer League welcomes Alexandria Reds as an expansion team from the D.C. metro. With the announcement, the WPSL confirmed its official alignment for the 2024 season will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

“Joining the WPSL supports our efforts to provide female youth players in our community with a pathway to play at the highest level locally and nationally,” Jim Hogan, Alexandria Reds deputy director, said.

The parent club for the Alexandria Reds is the Alexandria Soccer Association (ASA), a non-profit organization established over five decades ago in Alexandra, Va. Since 1970, ASA has remained committed to providing the highest level of play in its area for youth and adult players. The club sees the WPSL platform as an outlet that will open new soccer opportunities for its female athletes.

“ASA is excited to continue to provide top-tier opportunities for our youth and adult women players,” Hogan said. “Joining the WPSL is another step in this direction as we seek to professionalize the game day experience, increase the level of competition, and exposure for our players.”

Outside of their commitment to quality of play, ASA is equally dedicated to impacting their community through multiple outreach ventures. In 2018, ASA launched its Access4All project to encompass scholarship support, outreach programming, and free soccer leagues which provide soccer programming at Title 1 elementary schools, middle schools, and Alexandria City high school. Over the last year, ASA hosted 120 sessions for 900 kids.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
